We journey to the heart of the Caucasus Mountains and enjoy the magnificent scenery of Mt Kazbek and its eternal snows. Then we travel to western part of the country and visit the sites in and around Kutaisi, including Gelati Monastery. Our journey will continue to Svaneti. Svaneti province is located in the heart of the Central Caucasus surrounded by mighty 5000 metre peaks. We explore the remote villages with their unique towers and discovery ancient local cultures preserved for thousands of years. Finally we explore Tbilisi.
Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive Tbilisi. Day 2: Excursion to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia. Continue trip along the river Aragvi Valley and Georgian Military Highway. On the road visit Ananuri architectural complex. Cross the Greater Caucasus at Jvari Pass (2395m) down to Kazbegi. Explore the area and enjoy wonderful views of the Caucasus Mountains, including Mt. Kazbek, 5047m. Day 3: Visit the town Gori. Excursion to Uplistsikhe ancient cave-city. Visit Gelati Monastery near Kutaisi. Overnight in Kutaisi. Day 4: Drive to Svaneti. Via town Zugdidi and river Enguri valley we reach Mestia, provincial centre of Svaneti. Mestia is surrounded by huge Caucasus summits of Ushba (4710m) and Tetnuldi (4975m). Day 5: Explore Mestia and visit its highlights: Svanetian towers and Mestia Museum. Travel to village Ushguli. Visit the village, its medieval towers and enjoy the views of Mt. Shkhara (5201m). Return to Mestia. Day 6: Trip back to Tbilisi. Day 7: Full day city tour of Tbilisi to visit its old part, churches, architectural monuments and other major sites of this fascinating city. Night in Tbilisi. Day 8: End of the tour.
