Svaneti Adventure
Svaneti, Georgia’s most spectacular mountain province, offers some of the best walking and trekking routs in the whole Caucasus. We explore Mestia, provincial center of Svaneti and located between famous Caucasus summits Tetnuldi and Ushba. Then we trek deep in the valleys and cross high mountain passes to reach remote Medieval villages of Zhabeshi, Adishi and Ushguli where we finish our trek at the foot of Mt. Shkhara, the highest summit of Georgia. This is a moderate trek involving 5 to 8 hour walking a day and crossing mountain passes the highest of which is about 2800 metres.
Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive Tbilisi. Day 2: Excursion to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of Georgia. Trip to western part of the country. Arrival in Kutaisi. Hotel. Day 3: Drive to Svaneti. Via town Zugdidi and river Enguri valley we reach Mestia. Walk around and visit Mestia Museum. Day 4: Visit Svanetian House and towers. Drive to Hatsvali skiing area where from we have views of Mt. Ushba. After a about 3.5 – 4 hours trek over the mountain pass at about 2300m we walk down to village Zhabeshi (1680m). Overnight at a village house. Day 5: We trek for 7 to 8 hours and cross the mountain pass over 2500 metres. We descend to beautiful village of Adishi (2070m) located at the foot of Mt. Tetnuldi. Overnight at a village house. Day 6: Morning start trekking up to 2800 metres on serpentine and then down to Khalde Valley passing some ruins of medieval villages. (5 to 7 hour trek). We reach village Ushguli (2350m) located at the foot of Mt. Shkhara. Overnight in Ushguli. Day 7: Hiking in and around Ushguli. Transfer back to Mestia. Day 8: Today we have a long trip from Mestia to Tbilisi (480km). Arrive in Tbilisi. Hotel. Day 9: Full day city tour of Tbilisi with excursions to the old part of the city, churches and architectural monuments, and other sites of this fascinating city. Night in Tbilisi. Day 10: End of the tour.
